SB: Freshman Rachel Cid named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

It's the first honor for a Duck since Miranda Elish won the award in March of 2017

As far as college debuts go, it’s hard to imagine anyone having a better one than Oregon freshman Rachel Cid.

Cid, batting third in the lineup, hit .471 (8-for-17) with three homeruns, seven runs scored and 10 RBI’s, adding a .591 on-base percentage in the process. Because of this, she was named as the Pac-12’s freshman of the week for the opening week of the season.

She was instrumental in leading then-ranked No. 25 Oregon to an undefeated (5-0) record at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona. With her offensive slugfest, Oregon defeated Kansas (14-5), Cal-State Northridge (12-5), Bradley (13-3), Missouri (6-1) and Seattle (8-6) over the past weekend.

The Ducks’ competition will ramp up this weekend as the St. Pete/Clearwater Invitational, where they’ll face three nationally-ranked teams — No. 8 LSU, No. 23 James Madison and No. 18 Kentucky — in three of their four games.
