When Oregon softball begins the 2019 season, the Ducks will be without two key contributors. Junior right-handed pitcher Miranda Elish and sophomore utility player Lauren Burke announced their intentions to transfer to the University of Texas for the upcoming softball season.
Both players are following the recent departure of former Oregon head coach Mike White, who left the Ducks for the Longhorns earlier in the year. Going with White to Texas were assistant coaches Chelsea Spencer and Kailee Cuico. All three coaches played vital roles for Elish and Burke during their time at Oregon — while White recruited the girls, Spencer and Cuico were integral to their development.
Elish is coming off a sophomore season in which she was named a second-team an all-American after posting a 25-2 record. A power pitcher, she held opponents to a 1.20 ERA and .171 batting average with 249 strikeouts, in leading the Ducks to the Women’s College World Series.
"I am so grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to get down to Austin and start working," Elish wrote on Twitter.
Burke, who is from Eugene, was the ultimate utility player. She held a .351 batting average with three homeruns and 17 RBI’s on the season, being named to the all-Pac-12 freshman team.
