Washington was starved for a celebration when the Capitals won the Stanley Cup and brought a parade through the streets of D.C. Could the city stand a three-day sports party? According to online oddsmaker BetOnline.AG, (via 106.7 The Fan) the DMV area has 5-2 odds to host the 2022 NFL draft, an event that is growing by leaps and bounds every year.
Could the city withstand the festivities? After Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas and most recently Nashville, the money generated for each region has become a huge revenue boost for each city. Vegas will host in 2020, with Cleveland up next in 2021. Kansas City will take it's turn in 2023,but no city has been awarded 2022 as of yet.
The league is looking to put cities on rotation, ones that don't exist in warm weather areas that are in the rotation to host Super Bowls. How viable is Washington, D.C. as a locale, though? In Dallas, everything was spread out among the major cities of Dallas, Ft. Worth and Arlington. In Nashville, things were much more centralized.
Nationals Park is the largest sports venue in the city, and with the gentrification of that portion of D.C. full blown, the wharf area could be where things would be located. The Nationals could easily be scheduled for a week-long road trip to allow for preparation and cleanup.
