Baugh heads NFL historian's list of top quarterbacks from the pre-WWII era

NFL historian Chris Willis ranks his best quarterbacks from the pre-World War II era, with Sammy Baugh at the top.

NFL fans annually compile lists of the NFL's Top 10 modern-era quarterbacks, and most begin with the names Unitas, Brady or Montana. But what about the pre-World War II passers?

NFL historian Chris Willis of Pro Football Journal and head of the Research Library at NFL Films is here to rank his favorite quarterbacks of that era. Predictably, the roll call begins with Hall-of-Fame Sammy Baugh, whom Willis calls "simply the best quarterback of the NFL's two-way era" and who too often is omitted from lists of the NFL’s best and brightest quarterbacks.
