Houston Texans Have Visit Scheduled with Free Agent CB Jason Verrett

The Houston Texans are second on the list of visits for free agent cornerback Jason Verrett.

The Houston Texans continue to dive into the pool of free agents to find potential fits for the roster and have scheduled a visit with free agent cornerback Jason Verrett. Verrett is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers to start off his free agent visits with the Texans second on the list. The Kansas City Chiefs are also interested in getting a closer look at Verrett. The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson first reported the Verrett visit with the Texans.

Verrett was a first round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers out of TCU. Verrett best season came in 2015 when he was selected to a Pro Bowl after appearing in 14 games posting 47 total tackles with 3 interceptions and 12 pass deflections. Verrett has not played a full season and only played in five games the past three seasons due to injuries.

In 2014. Verrett’s season ended prematurely after tearing his labrum and having tears in his rotator cuff. In 2016, he tore his ACL which he suffered in week four of the season. In 2017, he was shut down due to knee soreness that ended up requiring surgery. In 2018, Verrett tore his achilles on the first day of training camp which ended his season before it started.

For his career, Verrett has 80 total tackles, 19 pass deflections, 5 interceptions and a defensive touchdown.

With the Texans looking for help in the secondary, Verrett would be a low cost and potentially high reward if he can stay on the field and provide some key depth at the cornerback position.
