This week feels like Rankman/Kid in a candy store with plenty of interesting, emotional and intriguing picks on the board.
To wit: San Jose State coming off a huge, emotional win at Arkansas last week is a warning-light flash for a following-week letdown. Unfortunately, the oddsmakers are on it by enlisting SJS as an 18.5 underdog at Air Force on Friday night. Another huge factor in Week 5 is quarter-system student/athletes starting classes. Meeting teachers and moving into dorms can be a huge distraction for a team, say, like UCLA, which is headed to Arizona as 6.5 dogs one week after an emotionally-draining 67-63 win at Wazzu. History says UCLA does not respond well to these kinds of academic/athletic situations. So, a lot to mull over. Rankman & Son are back over .500 after a 4-2 bounce-back in Week 4. Like father and son? We both went 2-1 and each stand 6-5-1 for the season, which works out at 12-10-2. Team TMG is 60-54-6 despite getting pulled down by the guys who should know better. Jersey Guy and Locksmith, both from The Garden State, are limping along at 20-27-1 and we know that’s not good, fellas.
Father Knows Bets
Rutgers (+28) at MICHIGAN
Thinking here is such: Michigan got punched last week at Michigan and now it wants to punch someone. Four touchdowns is a lot to consider until you consider Michigan has won its last four versus Rutgers by an average of 41.75 points.
Washington State at Utah (57)
Any Pac 12 game “under” 60 deserves a cold, hard look. Washington State scored 63 points last week in defeat!
Brigham Young (2.5) at TOLEDO
BYU has already scored wins this year against Tennessee and USC…If the Cougars can’t sneak a field goal through to beat the Rockets, well, it won’t be “mission accomplished.”
Houston (+7.5) at NORTH TEXAS
Son says Houston quarterback D’Eriq King’s decision to quit on his team and redshirt the rest of the season should be enough for the Mean Green to cover in Denton. Houston also lost WR Keith Corbin to Redshirt Quit City.
Pick: North Texas
Kansas (+15.5) at TEXAS CHRISTIAN
Son says who are we to doubt a team that not only covered as double-digit dogs at Boston College, but actually won by 24? KU won’t let a little basketball scandal get in the way of this Big 12 roadie.
Kansas State at OKLAHOMA STATE (60)
Son goes all in on Dorothy State and thinks this game will play footsie with the “over/line” until the final minute. Overtime would be good way to push this to a successful conclusion.
