Koonik and van Der Ploeg Earn Regional Recognition for Doubles Competition

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Wyoming tennis program finished the season ranked sixth in the Mountain Region with seniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg earning a No. 7 ranking among regional doubles teams.

Denver, Utah and UNLV were the top three teams. The Cowgirls completed the season with an overall record of 14-8 overall mark and 3-2 in MW play. For the tenth consecutive year the program finished with double-digit victories. Already the winningest coach in school history, head coach Dean Clower earned his 100th career win with a victory against Northern Arizona on March, 3, 2019.

Two individuals earned All-MW honors for the eighth time under Clowers’ guidance.

Koonik and van Der Ploeg finished the year 16-18 overall, 11-10 during the spring and 4-1 in MW action on the way to garnering All-Conference honors for the third time in their careers. The duo are the first in school history to win the award three straight years and ranked seventh all-time in school history with 67 wins.

van Der Ploeg placed 20th regionally in singles action. She went 16-17 overall and 10-10 during the spring at the number one position. She would earn All-Mountain West Conference honors for the first time in her career.
